YouTube video: a new title and thumbnail – 3,006 views on day one
A fresh video was barely moving. We replaced the title and thumbnail – within hours it went from a few hundred to 3,006 views, 98% of them from YouTube recommendations.
- Client: YouTube channel
- Service: Social media
Starting point
In the first 20 hours after publishing, a new video got only a few hundred views – below the channel’s usual level.
What we did
- analysed why it started slowly: thumbnail click-through rate and audience retention
- wrote a new title that matches what the audience is interested in
- designed a new thumbnail that stands out in recommendations
- tracked the effect in YouTube Studio real-time stats
Result
- after the change the curve shot up: 3,006 views in 24 hours – 2,300 more than a typical video on the channel
- 1,151 views in the last hour alone
- 207.5 hours of watch time (157.5 more than usual) and +26 subscribers
- 98.1% of views came from YouTube recommendations (browse features)
